Ted Margarit

Co-Founder and Managing Partner

Summary

Ted has been engaged in the structuring and execution of corporate finance transactions for nearly two decades, including both as an investment banker and attorney, where his practice focused on M&A, tax, and ESOP transactions and ongoing maintenance and compliance. This combination of transaction execution expertise, an analytical financial acumen, and a practical, solutions-orientated legal perspective affords him with unique, comprehensive capabilities to provide bespoke solutions focused on maximizing both quantitative and qualitative outcomes for his client-partners.

Experience

Prior to co-founding Paralign, Ted was a Managing Director at Chartwell Financial Advisory, where he completed some of the largest and most complex transactions in the firm’s history. Preceding Chartwell, Ted previously was at Harris Williams & Co., a preeminent sell-side M&A advisor to the middle market, and began his investment banking career at Lazard, Ltd., a leading global boutique investment bank. In 2017, Ted received the Emerging Leaders Award from The M&A Advisor as recognition for his career achievements. Additionally, Ted presently serves on the board of Campers Inn, the largest family-held RV dealership in the United States.

Leveraging his unique experience as both an investment banker and transactional attorney, Ted is also a recognized national expert in the area of ESOPs and ESOP transactions, a longstanding member of the National Center for Employee Ownership and the ESOP Association’s Legal & Regulatory Committee, and presents at multiple national ESOP conferences annually. He is also honored to serve as an instructor at the University of California-San Diego’s Rady School of Management in their ESOP educational course and is a member of the Rady School’s Beyster Institute ESOP policy working group.

Education & Credentials

Ted received his MBA from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina, JD from the University of St. Thomas School of Law, and BBA from the University of North Dakota. He is registered with FINRA and holds Series 63 and 79 securities licenses, as well as licenses to practice law in Minnesota and North Dakota, and is admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court and the U.S. 8th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Personal

Ted enjoys spending time with his wife, Elizabeth, and children, Andrew and Sarah, and (when seeking frustration) is an avid mediocre hunter, impatient fisherman, and inconsistent golfer. With over 20 years of flying experience, Ted holds a commercial pilot license with multi-engine & instrument privileges, which he uses to foster meaningful relationships with his clients, regardless of location.
